Family Camping: Kirby Cove

Kirby Cove This National Park Service facility is a rustic campground. You must bring your own water! It has only four campsites, each with four tent areas with plenty of space between camp areas. Kirby Cove is located on the ocean side of the Golden Gate Bridge and is accessed through a service road from the Marin Headlands (first parking lot at GG lookout). The road has a gate with a combination lock; NPS sends you the combination after you have made your reservation. The campground is about 100 yards from the water and low enough so that when the fog rolls in you are below "the soup". Be forewarned that there is a fog horn when visibility endangers shipping. This is a great place to view cargo ships entering the Golden Gate.
